Transformational Leadership, Extra Role Behavior and Job Satisfaction

Abstract

This study aims to examine whether employee job satisfaction is an intermediate variable for transformational leadership towards the behavior of extra role employees in the ranks of one of the retail companies in Palu City. With the help of the SPSS 21 program to process data, a total of 134 respondents using the census method, proved that employee job satisfaction is an intervening variable indirect influence between the two variables. Based on the results of data processing with Path Analysis method that is used to test the relationship and influence between variables, the results obtained show a greater indirect effect than direct influence. This is indicated by the total indirect effect between transformational leadership on extra role behavior through job satisfaction of 0.517 or 51.7%. But this value is smaller than the β value of the effect of job satisfaction on extra role behavior (amounting to 0.668 or 66.8%) and the β value of direct influence (transformational leadership on extra role behavior) is very small, which is 0.187 or only 18.7%.
